Crizal Easy Pro: What It Adds Over a Basic Coating

Not every pair of glasses needs the top-tier coating. Crizal Easy Pro is Essilor's mid-tier coating line — built for daily wearers who need real glare, scratch and smudge resistance, without paying for the top of the range.
What Crizal Easy Pro is (and isn't)
Crizal Easy Pro is an anti-reflective, anti-scratch, smudge- and dust-resistant coating, sitting between a basic coating and the two higher tiers, Crizal Natural Look and Sapphire HR. It isn't a UV-blocking layer — UV protection comes from the lens material or a separate coating — and it's scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof.
In daily use, this coating cuts surface glare, resists water, dust and fingerprints, and has a hard layer that resists scuffing from a case or everyday cleaning — this is what determines whether a lens still looks and performs well after a year, not just on the day you buy it.
Crizal Easy Pro vs Natural Look vs Sapphire HR
This is the comparison we usually walk customers through at Manh Long Optical, Cua Nam, when deciding between Crizal tiers.
| Criteria | Easy Pro | Natural Look | Sapphire HR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anti-reflective | Good | Excellent, most natural-looking | Excellent, cooler-toned reflection |
| Scratch resistance | Good (hard layer) | Good | Outstanding (HR) |
| Suited to | Daily wearers upgrading from a basic coating | Office work, driving, photos | People who tend to drop their glasses |
Choose Crizal Easy Pro if you:
- Wear glasses daily and want a clear upgrade in scratch and glare resistance over a standard coating.
- Work long hours in front of a screen and want to cut surface glare from monitors and ceiling lights.
- Have had an unbranded coating go cloudy or scratched within a year and want more durability this time.
- Want a genuine upgrade without paying for the top-tier Natural Look or Sapphire HR.
No need to rush if you:
Easy Pro is a real upgrade, but not necessarily the first choice for everyone:
- Only wear glasses occasionally for reading — a basic coating may already be enough.
- Care most about the most natural clarity, maximum glare reduction, or the highest scratch resistance — Natural Look or Sapphire HR will suit you better.
- Are just swapping frames and are happy with your current coating.
Crizal Easy Pro vs an unbranded coating
Plenty of customers bring in glasses fitted elsewhere with an unbranded scratch coating, asking why the lens went cloudy or scratched after just a few months. It's a pattern we see often.
| Factor | Unbranded coating | Crizal Easy Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Scratch resistance | Wears down quickly with daily use | Hard layer built for daily use |
| Glare reduction | Very little or none | Anti-reflective by design |
| Smudge/dust resistance | Picks up fingerprints and dust easily | Smudge- and dust-resistant surface |
| Warranty | None | Manufacturer warranty against coating defects |
| Typical lifespan | Often under a year with daily wear | Several years with proper care |
How to clean and store it properly
Crizal Easy Pro is durable, but not indestructible. Here's what we always tell customers:
- Rinse with water before wiping — wiping a dusty lens dry scratches the coating.
- Use only a microfiber cloth; tissues or paper towels cause fine scratches over time.
- Avoid household glass cleaner — ammonia-based solutions can damage the coating.
- Store in a hard case; leaving glasses lens-down or loose in a bag is the most common cause of coating damage.
Common questions
- Is Crizal Easy Pro worth upgrading to from a basic coating?
- For daily wearers, yes — the difference in glare and scratch resistance shows up clearly within a few months of use. For occasional wearers, a basic coating may already be enough.
- Does Crizal Easy Pro block UV rays?
- UV protection usually comes from the lens material, not this coating. Ask staff to confirm the UV rating of the material and index you choose.
- How is Easy Pro different from Natural Look?
- Natural Look sits above Easy Pro with more natural-looking glare reduction and a higher price. Easy Pro is a solid upgrade from a basic coating at a more moderate cost — see the comparison table above.
- How long does the coating last?
- With proper care — rinse first, wipe with a microfiber cloth, never wipe dry — the coating holds up well over years of daily use. Improper cleaning shortens the lifespan of any coating.
