SUNGLASSES WITH A PRESCRIPTION

Prescription Sunglasses in Hanoi

Manh Long Optical · 147A Le Duan, Cua Nam, Hanoi · Updated 7 September 2026

In short: tinted prescription lenses in a sunglasses frame are 1,850,000₫ for the finished pair; photochromic lenses that go clear indoors are from 1,550,000₫, also finished. We do not fit polarised lenses with a prescription — that is worth knowing before you choose a frame. Single-vision is usually same day.

Most people who ask us about sunglasses in Hanoi want the same thing: to stop carrying two pairs. Here is what is actually possible, including the one option we cannot do.

Two ways to get sunglasses with your prescription

Tinted prescription lenses in a sunglasses frame — 1,850,000₫ for the finished pair, frame included. A normal prescription lens, dyed. You end up with a second pair that is only sunglasses. Best if you spend real time outdoors and want a proper dark tint.

Photochromic lenses — from 1,550,000₫ for the finished pair, frame included. Clear indoors, darkening outdoors, one pair for everything. Best if you are moving in and out all day and do not want to swap.

Both prices include the frame. The final figure moves with your prescription strength, the lens index and the coating you choose, and we quote the whole thing before we cut anything.

The honest limit: polarised

We do not fit polarised lenses with a prescription. Polarised sunglasses here are plano only — no correction in them.

We say this early because polarised is the first thing people ask for, and being told at the counter after you have chosen a frame is a waste of your afternoon. If cutting glare on water or a road is what you need and you also need correction, a dark tint plus a good anti-reflective coating on the back surface gets you most of the way.

Why photochromic lenses stay clear in a car

This one surprises people, so it is worth knowing before you spend 1,550,000₫.

Photochromic lenses darken in response to ultraviolet light. Modern car windscreens block most UV. So the lens sits in bright sunlight, feels the heat, and stays nearly clear. It is not a fault and it is not a bad batch — it is how the chemistry works.

If you drive a lot in daylight, a dedicated tinted pair is the more honest purchase.

Choosing a tint

We keep tint sample discs at the counter so you can hold each one up rather than guess from a name.

Depth of tint matters more than colour for comfort. Ask to see the sample outside the door before you commit; the shop lighting flatters everything.

How long it takes

If you are flying out, tell us your departure date first and we will tell you what is realistic before you choose. We would rather sell you the pair we can finish in time than the one we cannot.

What sunglasses do and do not do

A dark tint cuts brightness. UV protection is a separate property of the lens, not a function of how dark it looks — a cheap dark lens without UV filtering makes your pupils open wider in bright light, which is the wrong direction. Every tinted lens we fit filters UV.

Beyond comfort and UV filtering, we are not going to claim sunglasses treat anything. If something about your vision worries you, that is a question for an eye hospital, not for us.

Common questions

How much are prescription sunglasses in Hanoi?
1,850,000₫ for the finished pair including the frame, using tinted prescription lenses. Photochromic lenses that go clear indoors and dark outdoors start at 1,550,000₫, also including the frame. The final figure depends on your prescription strength, lens index and coating.
Can I get polarised lenses with my prescription?
Not at our shop. We fit polarised lenses only without correction. If you need both glare control and correction, a dark tint with a good anti-reflective coating on the back surface is what we would recommend.
Why do my photochromic lenses stay clear when I drive?
Because they darken in response to ultraviolet light, and car windscreens block most UV. It is how the lens works rather than a fault. If you drive a lot in daylight, a separate tinted pair is the more useful buy.
How fast can you make prescription sunglasses?
Single-vision tinted lenses are usually same day. Progressive is about 24 hours. Essilor or ZEISS lenses that we order in take three to four days. Tell us your flight date before you choose.
Do I need to bring a prescription?
No. The eye test is free whether you buy or not. Bring a written prescription if you have one, but if it is more than twelve months old we will re-test rather than copy it.

Try a tint before you decide

We keep tint sample discs at the counter. Hold them up, take one to the doorway and look at the street through it. The eye test is free either way.
