Tokai Lenses: Index 1.70, 1.76 and the Lutina Lens's 400-420 nm Cut
Tokai lenses are a Japanese brand line, per the shop's price sheet. At Manh Long Optical, Tokai is the brand offering index 1.70 and 1.76. This page lists full September 2026 pricing, and is clear about what the shop hasn't confirmed yet.
1. What Tokai indexes are available, and what do they cost?
Tokai at the shop covers four single-vision tiers — 1.60, 1.67 (the Lutina line), 1.70 and 1.76 — plus one SERENO IS 1.70 progressive line. Single-vision prices run from 1,200,000 to 9,300,000 VND per pair, depending on index and prescription.

|---|---|---|
| 1.60 AS SPS UV400 | 1,200,000 VND | 0 to ±4.00 |
| 1,850,000 VND | astigmatism 2.25 to 4.00 | |
| 1,300,000 VND | ±4.25 to ±6.00 | |
| 1,970,000 VND | depends on prescription, ask at the counter | |
| 1,300,000 VND | myopia 8.25 to 10.00 | |
| Lutina 1.67 AS PGC P-UV | 3,200,000 VND | myopia up to 4.00 |
| 3,600,000 VND | myopia up to 8.00 | |

| 1.76 AS SPS UV400 | 7,000,000 VND · 8,300,000 VND · 9,300,000 VND | |
| 1.70 SERENO IS SPS UV400 progressive | 11,600,000 VND | Quoted after your eye test |
September 2026 prices, per pair of lenses, frame not included, final price confirmed after your eye test. Prescription ranges copied verbatim from the price sheet; Lutina 1.67 accepts astigmatism up to 2.00. AS marks an aspheric design. Brand country of origin per the shop's price sheet: Japan.
The Lutina name only appears on the 1.67 tier on the price sheet. For which index suits your prescription, start with lens index from 1.56 to 1.76.
2. How much thinner is 1.76, and is it worth it?
By formula, at the same prescription and same lens diameter, a 1.76 lens edge is roughly 3% thinner than 1.74, about 12% thinner than 1.67, and about 21% thinner than 1.60. Whether that's worth it still depends on your prescription, and the shop doesn't yet have guidance on which prescriptions 1.76 suits.
Approximate formula: edge thinning = 1 − (lower n − 1) ÷ (higher n − 1). Example, 1.67 versus 1.76: 1 − 0.67 ÷ 0.76 ≈ 12%. This ignores lens curvature, aspheric design and center thickness, so the real number on your frame will differ. It isn't a figure the manufacturer publishes.
On price, the lowest 1.76 price (7,000,000 VND) is roughly 1.6 times the highest Lutina 1.67 price (4,500,000 VND) — not a comparison at the same prescription, since the price sheet doesn't list a prescription range for 1.76.
Against the 1.74 index from the two European brands, the highest Tokai 1.76 price (9,300,000 VND) is still lower than Essilor Blue UV Capture 1.74 (12,380,000 VND) and Zeiss ClearView 1.74 (12,280,000 VND). In exchange, Zeiss 1.74 states it accepts myopia up to -20.00 and Essilor 1.74 up to -18.00, while the price sheet doesn't yet state a range for Tokai 1.76. To put all five brands side by side, see lens brands compared.
3. What light band does the Lutina lens filter?
Per Tokai's own product page, Lutina cuts the 400-420 nm light band, on top of the UV cutoff up to 400 nm that a standard lens already has.
Tokai's page doesn't state a filtering percentage, so this page doesn't state one either.
The benefit we can state is reduced glare and reflection when looking at a screen. The supplier's price sheet and the brand's own page make further claims about eye health, and we don't repeat them here, because the 2023 Cochrane systematic review hasn't found evidence that blue-light-filtering lenses reduce eye strain or protect the retina, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology attributes most screen-related eye strain to reduced blinking. See whether blue-light-filtering glasses are actually necessary for more detail.
4. What is SERENO IS, and what does it cost?
SERENO IS is Tokai's 1.70-index progressive line, priced at 11,600,000 VND per pair. That's the highest price among the Tokai tiers the shop carries.
Tokai isn't the most expensive brand here. On the price sheet, Zeiss ClearView 1.74 is 12,280,000 VND, Essilor Blue UV Capture 1.74 is 12,380,000 VND, and Zeiss PhotoFusion DuraVision Gold 1.74 is 16,380,000 VND. The price sheet doesn't describe the SERENO IS design; staff will explain it after your eye test, once your near-vision addition is known.
5. Who shouldn't choose Tokai lenses?
Anyone with a low prescription who doesn't need 1.70 or 1.76. Under 3 diopters, the shop recommends 1.60, and Tokai 1.60 starts at 1,200,000 VND.
Anyone who needs a photochromic lens: the shop's price sheet has no photochromic Tokai option. Anyone with astigmatism over 2.00 who wants to use Lutina: Lutina 1.67 accepts astigmatism up to 2.00. If you need a photochromic pair or a cheaper option at the same 1.67 index, see Chemi stock and custom-ground lenses.
6. How long does a Tokai lens take?
The shop hasn't set a specific turnaround for Tokai lenses, so this page doesn't promise a number. The general standard the shop publishes: stock single-vision lenses are cut same-day.
Ask at the counter when ordering.
If you're leaving town soon, mention your departure date as soon as you arrive. Staff will only suggest options that can be finished in time.
